bombay does not limp back to normalcy...
it simply jumps back to life...
exchanges stories...
pushes the sensex higher...
shrugs like nothing happenned...
panics a little bit....
shows it has a soul...
realizes it has no disaster management machinery in place...
shrugs anyway...
makes money...
opens it hearts to others...
and wallet,if required...
lends a helping hand...
and the next day, trudges along like nothing has happenned!!!!

truer words hav not been spoken...
and what do u mean... "saw your mail, touched" do u know what went into writing that...OWL :p
a gr8 post .... addin ur post in my post abt the Mumbai rains .... and if ur from NMIMS then u guys did a gr8 job....
yeah? i thought for once bombay showed its wrinkles from all that constant grinning about the bouncing back spirit. It reacted like any other city would have. Or maybe I was expecting too fast a bounce-back when I saw all of nariman point empty 2 days later?
rakshit...:)))))))))))))))
OWL YOU!
venkatesh...thanks...but we just did the best we could...
pranav...ONE day after the tragedy..and we're talking about people who've left nariman point today to get back home because all transport infrastructure had broken down for the last two days...
hyatt mein you could not possibly have realized the mammoth proportions this tragedy has taken...
if u saw wat i did,i'm sure you'd agree:)
couldnt agree more. can feel it even though am away from it!
yeah I know...thats why I was questioning why you said Bombay bounced back..when it really didnt - even two days after Tuesday when 98% people seemed to be still at home. Am not saying that its wrong to sit at home after having spent 18 hrs stuck in the traffic/water - in fact that is what anyone would do, but that hardly shows a bouncing back- it does show a slow limping back to normalcy. Most offices still dont have full attendance 3 days after. I am yet to see the govt/private machinery swing in to clean up the mess left on the streets. Many areas are without water or electricity. The rumour mills are churning overtime about dam bursts and tsunamis leading to panic and more deaths in areas. Where is the bounce back. It is more like a city in chaotic disarray. That was my point. I do fail to recognise what the hoopla in media and blogs about bombay bouncing back is all about whenever any calamity happens - is it unnecessary self congratulation? -if anyone did bounce back, it was all those slum dwellers whose houses were submerged but still reported for work as maidservants the next day...and umm..many bombay ppl want to remove them from bombay...though thats an entirely diff matter. Yup, laudable were the efforts of taxi drivers who still charged by meter, the housewives who rallied to provide food but thats not Bombay..thats human.
As for the stock markets rallying..emmm..you do remember, dont you, that theres India beyond bombay too, that invests in the markets;-))?
wooster...yeah:))
i know exactly what you mean!!!
pranav...bouncing back is not self-congratulatory,it is spirit...
every side will have its share of for examples...i went to andheri station...and the only shops that were closed there yesterday...were the ones which had painted on their shutters..'thursday closed'!
:))))
acha...
and if,for a minute,i accept your allegation that it is mere hoopla...why not yet let it be,if its positive and it helps people deal with the stuff that comes along...whats the point in being all glum and crabby and whiny?
whats wrong with celebrating heroism?and with celebrating people who went out of their way to help???more power to them...
and yeah, now that i have looked at it both ways...you will pounce with a refutation...
so be it...more power to you too:)
